Engine
Well, since the front radiator support was already all cut up and the
firewall torched with a major hole I had plenty of room to install a V-8.
It didn't hurt to have a fresh small block sitting on the engine stand
waiting for a home. I did do some "minor" upgrades while my Dad's
back was turned.
The list for the Chevrolet Small Block goes something like this:

Transmission
We chose a Turbo Hydromatic 350 for the Jeepster. I installed
a B&M shift kit, adjustable modulator to fine tune the shift points
and a 2400 B&M stall converter. The stall converter was necessary
due to the high lift cam I selected.
The transmission crossmember turned out to be just a piece of 3/8" thick
by 4" wide flat stock which I welded to the X-member. I just drilled two
holes for the transmission mount bolts. No modifications to the x-member
were necessary.
We mounted the transmission oil cooler in front of the radiator to get
the maximum air flow and heat transfer possible. If the Jeepster
has a cooling problem I'll place the transmission cooler in a different
location to remove some of the heat from the raditor.
I added a chrome transmission oil pan, flywheel cover and dip stick
tube.
Rearend
The rearend is out of a 1979 Camaro.
To eliminate the hassle of breaking down due to an old part wearing
out I replaced all the seals, bearings, wheel cylinders and brake shoes..
I also ordered all new spring bushings and eye bolts from Willys America
so the ride would be as smooth as possible.
We cut everything off of the rearend and made up new spring perch mounts
to line up the original springs. I was able to retain the stock emergency
brake cables by slightly enlarging the backing plate holes for the cable
housing to pass through.
I chose to go with air shocks for the back so I could adjust the stance
and they fit on the original upper and lower mounting hardware. I
picked the shocks up a Kragen's.
